Shop Powered & Supplied Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR)

Demanding work environments with higher risk airborne hazards can be effectively managed using a powered air purifying respirator (PAPR).

A PAPR uses a battery-driven blower fan unit that pulls air through attached filters or cartridges to clean it and then make it available for breathing by the wearer.  Benefits of a PAPR compared to standard non-powered respirators include lower breathing resistance and a higher level of respiratory protection.

URSafeRite’s advanced range of PAPR systems are engineering for superior comfort, reliability and to ensure compliance with Australian safety product standards.

Understanding Different PAPR Configurations

PAPRs can be configured to provide highly effective respiratory protection for a wide range of working environments and airborne hazards.  PAPRs will have either a tight-fitting facepiece, a helmet or a hood.  Helmets and hoods enclose the head and provide eye and face protection for the wearer.  The facepiece or headpiece is combined with appropriate filters depending on the site respiratory hazards present, from particulates (e.g. dust/asbestos) to noxious vapours & gases.  The headpiece connects to the battery-powered blower fan unit which supplies the filtered air to the wearer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Powered air purifying respirators are especially beneficial for use in industries where respiratory protection is critically important, such as medical/healthcare, manufacturing, chemical handling and pharmaceuticals.  PAPRs provide a higher level of protection compared to standard non-powered respirators, making them suitable for these kinds of environments where a higher protection factor is necessary.

PAPRs provide superior comfort over standard respirators as they offer lower breathing resistance with a steady flow of filtered air around the head and face for the wearer.  In contrast, non-powered standard respirators require the user’s breathing effort to pull air through the attached filters.

To enhance operating performance and reliability, PAPR systems require appropriate timely maintenance routines to be carried out.  These processes include necessary filter and cartridge replacement, battery checking and change, and cleaning of the facepiece or headpiece to prevent build-up of dust & dirt.

Yes, most PAPR systems provide the ability to combine respiratory, head, eye and face PPE gear to suit a range of different work environments and site hazards.  However, for optimal safety, the proper compatibility and integration of the various PPE gear must be considered when selecting equipment.
